Avoid Getting Spam from Feedback Form Usage:
Problem: Webmasters have learned that their feedback forms usually require them to
embed an EMail address inside of a web page -- in order that it will know who to send the
feedback to. The problem is that spammers are well aware of this fact too. And they
regularly harvest EMail addresses by the bucketful using automated web based
robotic crawler programs. The result is, a few days after your feedback form is
implemented, you'll start receiving spam at that address. And it increases over time.
Solution: A sure-fire way to stop spammers from harvesting your EMail address from
your web page feedback forms, is to just not embed your EMail address there in the first
place. I created a special script, which hides the EMail address that the feedback is sent
to. And since spammers can't see that EMail address, they can't spam it either. This
method has worked flawlessly and spamlessly for years in the feedback form above -- for
both customers who's web sites I maintain, as well as my hosting customers who maintain
their own web sites. Spammers may discover your EMail address by other means, but they'll
never harvest them from any web site that I host. |
